Omen Beasts

Omen Beasts are the sacred beasts of Alca in Soulframe. Freeing one in its Fable forms a bond that grants a Pact; those trapped in Ode'n ichor become Vadagar. The two in the game as of Oct 21, 2026 are Orengall, the Omen Shewolf, and Bromius, the Arbearer.

Omen Beasts are the sacred beasts of Alca in Soulframe: the Envoy frees them in Fables, and each bond grants a Pact, a set of Arcanic abilities ("Bonds with Omen Beasts grant Pacts with Arcanic abilities", says Steam), while those left trapped in Ode'n ichor become monstrous Vadagar. As of Oct 21, 2026 two are in the game: Orengall, the Omen Shewolf, and Bromius, the Arbearer, who also roams at night in his corrupted form as the Vadagar Bear. Digital Extremes' teaser of December 2024 shows the first of them: a huge white wolf bounds out of the trees to stand beside an armored Envoy in a sunlit forest, and the two later stand together on a hilltop. The Spellsong made Alca's people forget the beasts they worshipped; finding and freeing them is the heart of the Story.

Sunlight falls in patches through the trees onto a giant brown bear crouched low on a forest floor among gnarled roots and pink flowers. A big iron ring with a carved metal disc hangs from its neck, and its forelegs are wrapped in bands of wood and rope. With one clawed paw it touches a small round object glowing green on the ground. Digital Extremes' logo sits in the lower left corner and the Soulframe logo in the lower right.

What Omen Beasts are

The people of Alca once worshipped the Omen Beasts. The Ode's Spellsong made them forget "their divine Omen Beasts", and the beasts now "lay defiled, corrupted by Ode'n Ichor" with no one to free them but the Envoy (Steam, read Oct 21, 2026). The official verse puts it in one line: "Omen beasts in Ode'n chain bellow in mourning" (soulframe.com, read Oct 21, 2026). Each beast has a Fable, a story quest, and freeing it seals a bond. That bond is your Pact: the arm that holds three Arcanic abilities, one per Virtue, which you equip in your loadout (see Pacts and Virtues).

Freed beasts stay in your world. Since Preludes 14.5's Grace from Gods and Ghosts, refined in Preludes 15, Omen Beasts and Ancestors you have freed wander Midrath and grant boons that last a day. In Devstream 15 (May 29, 2026) the developers explain that "as you get deeper into the game and unlock more ancestors and more omen beasts, then they begin to appear around you and help you", one turning up about once a day in the woods near where you log in, bringing gifts as well as upgrades. "It's kind of like adding life to the world."

Orengall, the Omen Shewolf

Orengall is the Omen Shewolf, a giant white wolf and the first Omen Beast with her own Pact and Fable. Digital Extremes introduced her with a rhyme, "By silvern pelt, a pact is dealt", and she arrived in Preludes 8 on Jan 22, 2025, in "an early version of Warsongs, Orengall's Fable" (soulframe.com, Dec 5, 2024; soulframe.com, Dec 18, 2024). She stands beside the Envoy on the cover of Game Informer's issue 377 (Game Informer, Mar 27, 2026).

Her Fable is The Shewolf Snared. In Envoy Hour #6 (Nov 5, 2025), Sarah Asselin finds Orengall "all chained up" in the woods: "We must rescue her. Oh, she's mad. Not sure she trusts us yet." After a fight the chains break: "She Wolf freed." The Fable goes on to rescue Orengall's pups from cages, and at its end you choose one of them; since Preludes 16 that pup is your companion, the wolf meant to become the first mount (see Wolf Pup and Mounts).

Bromius, the Arbearer

Bromius is the Arbearer, a great bear of the Wevetwood whom the Ode corrupted into the Waste Bear. His Fable is The Waste Bear ("The Fable of the Arbearer Bromius"), added in Preludes 11 on Oct 8, 2025: a poppet "pulls you into Verminia's cauldron... and a sap-dream of a three-headed bear, dying trees, and a seed that won't grow" (soulframe.com, Oct 8, 2025). Digital Extremes' spotlight from TennoCon 2025 (July 2025) shows the Envoy fighting through green-lit root caves with Magick until a huge bear's head, with glowing eyes and bronze growths, looms out of the dark.

Twisting bronze-colored growths cover its brow and spread down its shoulder into a mass shaped like a face. The fight is a rescue, not a kill. In Devstream 9 (Sep 12, 2025) the team says the Fable's music "really speaks to like Bromius and the quest", where "you encounter him in his corrupted state and you have to save him"; its two songs are the Song of Wastes, for "the corrupted side" of Bromius, and the Song of Growth, for his redemption. Freed, he grants the Bromius Pact: "Be ward of the Wevetwood, regent of the Neath'uns' roots" (soulframe.com, Oct 8, 2025), with Arcanics such as Rump Thump, Wevetroot and Song of Growth that stir "memories of how Bromius fought in his Corrupted form as the Waste Bear" (soulframe.com, Sep 15, 2025). Narrative designer Sydney Hills summed him up as "objectively ... a nice, big old bear!" (MobileSyrup, Jul 24, 2025).

The Vadagar

Vadagar is what an Omen Beast becomes in the Ode's ichor. "Envoys may be familiar with the Omen Beasts becoming Vadagar when trapped in Ode'n ichor", Digital Extremes wrote (soulframe.com, Jul 11, 2026). The one you can meet is the Vadagar Bear. In Devstream 12 (Jan 30, 2026) the developers say "not all bears are bound to" the Wevetwood: "the Vadagar version of Bromius will now be in" Midrath "at night time in specific areas", an open-world version of the fight, and it arrived as an Agari, a named roaming boss, in Preludes 13 on Feb 12, 2026 (soulframe.com, Feb 12, 2026). How to beat it is on Bosses and Agari.

The Envoy can become Vadagar too. The Vadagar Pact, announced at TennoCon 2026, draws power from Vespers (Doom, Death and Wrath) instead of Virtues: "Mired in corruption", you "explore how healing Alca can come in many forms" (soulframe.com, Jul 11, 2026). It comes with Warsongs, promised for fall 2026 and not out as of Oct 21, 2026. The corruption itself is on The Ode.

Beasts to come

More Omen Beasts are on the way. At the end of Devstream 12 (Jan 30, 2026) the team teases concept art with the words "we're starting production on our next omen beast quest", and says "It'll be a ram"; in the same breath, "we're going to focus on" Orengall "for the mounts". As of Oct 21, 2026 the ram has no name or date.

Mounts will come from the beasts. "Long-awaited, you will soon be able to mount an Omen Beast of your own in 2026", starting with the wolf from The Shewolf Snared, and "Wolves will not be the only Mounts" (soulframe.com, Jul 11, 2026). In early demos, before Preludes, beasts played other roles: the 2023 TennoCon demo's boss was a Tormented Stag whose rider, Lady Deora, was redeemed by a flute melody rather than killed (MMORPG.com, Aug 26, 2023). Those 2023 scenes are not in today's build.
