Bosses and Agari

Soulframe's bosses are Fable bosses, fought in story quests, and Agari, named bosses placed around the open world of Midrath ("previously known as the Subbosses", renamed in Preludes 12). Named ones include the Mendicant King, the Mother Weaver, the Impidh Mockery, the Vadagar Bear, the Rovgot Wyrm, the Sinecure Errant-Gawth and the Mendicant Reinbreaker; Agari drop Runes and the Agaric mushrooms that brew The Cogah hard mode.

Soulframe has two kinds of boss: Fable bosses, met at the climax of a story quest such as the corrupted Bromius in The Waste Bear, and Agari, named bosses that stand or roam in the open world of Midrath, "previously known as the Subbosses" until Preludes 12 renamed and strengthened them in November 2025 (Digital Extremes, Nov 16, 2025). The newest is the Mendicant Reinbreaker, a mounted rider out of the "ichorous mire"; the TennoCon 2026 Devstream (Jul 11, 2026) shows an Envoy fighting it in a dark, misty marsh under a boss health bar, then a title card announcing it as live in the game. Agari drop Runes, lore notes and the Agaric mushrooms that brew The Cogah, Soulframe's hard mode, and each holds a special drop table that refreshes on a timer. This page lists every named boss Digital Extremes has announced, with the update that added it, as of Oct 21, 2026. How fights work is on Combat.

What Agari are

The Agari began as Soulframe's sub-bosses, fixed to places. In Devstream 9 (Sep 12, 2025), designer Scott McGregor explains that the new points of interest "are going to come with sub bosses" on "a 22hour" refresh, so there is "a persistent set" that is not subject to random placement: "this sinkhole is always going to have the mother weaver." CEO Steve Sinclair adds that they have "a really great drop table" worth running "circuits" through late in the game, and that the special drops can be claimed once per window, which stops players logging out and in to farm them.

Two months later Digital Extremes gave them their name. "The Agari now stand named and strengthened across Alca," the Preludes 12 notes read (Nov 26, 2025), and Envoys "take on the Agari (previously known as the Subbosses) to earn Runes, lore notes, a Figment and unique Talismans under The Cogah ritual" (Nov 16, 2025). Older guides that still say "sub-bosses" describe Preludes 11, when "new named sub-bosses" first dropped Runes (Oct 8, 2025).

What bosses drop

Agari drop the ingredients of Soulframe's hard mode. "Upon slaying an Agari, Envoys may see a ring of 'shrooms emerge with an Agaric mushroom in the centre to pluck", and those mushrooms brew the elixir that starts The Cogah, a Fey war ritual "once used to test the resolve of Fey warriors against the Agari" (Digital Extremes, Nov 16, 2025; Nov 26, 2025). Under it enemies grow stronger, and if every Envoy falls the ritual ends; see Beginner's Guide.

Runes, the active abilities Everflame, Archstorm and Alca's Breath, came from named sub-bosses when they were added in Preludes 11, and Virtue Liths were "a reward from defeating the Agari" while that system existed in Preludes 14.5 (Digital Extremes, May 12, 2026). Some bosses drop weapons: the Rovgot Wyrm and Mendicant soldiers give the Lyke-Wake Shield and the Cenotaph Long Blade, and the Sinecure Errant-Gawth "or similar mace-wielding Bannerettes" drop the Orst-III mace (Preludes 14; Preludes 14.5). Weapons and their Tempers are on Weapons and Tempers and Crafting.

Fable bosses: the Omen Beasts

Soulframe's story bosses are often beasts to be saved, not slain. Bromius, "the Arbearer", is the corrupted Waste Bear that the Envoy frees in The Waste Bear Fable of Preludes 11 (Digital Extremes, Oct 8, 2025). Once freed he becomes a Pact, and in Devstream 9 the designers point out that its abilities are "a call back to the original boss fight": the Rump Thump slam and the Wevetroot snare repeat moves the bear uses against you. The beasts and their stories are on Omen Beasts and Fables and Quests.

"It would seem not all bears are bound to Webwood," community manager Sarah Asselin says in Devstream 12 (Jan 30, 2026) as a developer finds the Vadagar Bear: "the Vadagar version of Bromius" now walks Midrath "at night time in specific areas", in "an open world version of the fight" whose leaping attack was adapted for the open world. Vadagar is what an Omen Beast becomes "when trapped in Ode'n ichor" (Digital Extremes, Jul 11, 2026), and Preludes 13 made the bear an Agari: "a Vadagar Bear stalks Midrath by moonlight" (Feb 12, 2026).

The Ode's champions

The Mendicant Reinbreaker was first shown in Devstream 15 (May 29, 2026). The developers watch a fight against a rider on horseback ("She gets a horse, but we don't," one jokes, since player mounts had not arrived) and cut away before the end to save the outcome. Digital Extremes calls the foe "a bucking rampage of the Ode forces' latest boss encounter": defeat "the mounted menace and free his indentured steed for the potential chance to befriend it in the future" (Digital Extremes, Jul 14, 2026). It went live in Preludes 15 and was "The newest Agari" at TennoCon 2026.

The Sinecure Errant-Gawth is a mace-wielding Ode Bannerette. In Envoy Hour (Nov 5, 2025), Asselin mentions a hotfix for "one of the sub bosses", the Sinecure Errant-Gawth, which "did not have the correct name"; players looking for it could now find it. In May 2026 it became the source of Orst-III, the first weapon to drop whole with random Tempers.

The Mendicant King rose with the Festival of the Circade in Preludes 10: "A king stirs from the Ichor-grave ... piece together what remains of the noble once split in three" (Digital Extremes, May 26, 2025). The Rovgot Wyrm, a long-legged creature of the Ode's fallen castles, came with the Fallen Skytower preview in Preludes 14, whose layout "will shift and change each time you enter it" (Apr 17, 2026). Who the Ode are is on The Ode.

Festival bosses

Crone Cucurbita belongs to Bita's Eve, Soulframe's autumn festival. In Envoy Hour (Nov 5, 2025), Asselin explains that players "follow the old rites" to craft spooky masks, Cucurbita's own from 2024 and two new ones, "lest Crone Cucurbita sends her phantom sprouts upon you". Digital Extremes' post: "With harvest imminent, Crone Cucurbita's power reaches its peak, walking the world of Midrath once more" (Oct 29, 2025).

Bosses still to come

Tempest Bayor, an Envoy sworn to the Ode and voiced by Ben Starr, is one of the game's "main rivals" in the Warsongs Fable, promised for fall 2026 and not released as of Oct 21, 2026; see Warsongs. Digital Extremes has also teased a ram Omen Beast quest, said in Devstream 12 to be starting production, with no date.

Frequently asked questions

How many bosses are in Soulframe? As of Oct 21, 2026, Digital Extremes has named about ten Soulframe bosses and Agari, from Nimrod and the Mendicant King to the Mendicant Reinbreaker; the game is in pre-alpha and adds new ones with most Preludes updates.

What are Agari in Soulframe? Agari are Soulframe's named open-world bosses, called sub-bosses until Preludes 12 (Nov 2025). They drop Runes, Talismans, lore and the Agaric mushrooms used to brew The Cogah hard mode.

What is the hardest boss in Soulframe? Digital Extremes has not ranked Soulframe's bosses. The Cogah ritual makes every fight harder, and it is the game's official hard mode.

Where is the Vadagar Bear in Soulframe? The Vadagar Bear, a corrupted version of the Omen Beast Bromius, is an Agari that roams parts of Midrath at night since Preludes 13 (Feb 2026).

How do you get the Mendicant Reinbreaker's horse in Soulframe? You cannot yet. Digital Extremes says beating the Mendicant Reinbreaker frees its steed "for the potential chance to befriend it in the future"; Soulframe has no rideable mount as of Oct 21, 2026.

Do Soulframe bosses respawn? Yes. Devstream 9 described Soulframe's sub-bosses, now the Agari, as fixed encounters whose special drops refresh every 22 hours per player.
