Weapons

Soulframe's weapon types are Long Blades (rapiers among them), Short Blades, Heavy weapons (greatswords and maces), Polearms, Magick staffs and wrist casters, bows and flyblades, plus a Sidearm slot. Since Preludes 15 (Jun 10, 2026) weapons drop fully crafted with random Tempers.

Soulframe's weapon types are Long Blades (rapiers among them), Short Blades, Heavy weapons (greatswords and maces), Polearms (including the axe Veilk), sword and shield, Magick staffs and wrist casters, and bows and flyblades, and every Loadout also carries a Sidearm. In Digital Extremes' Devstream 12 of Jan 30, 2026, a developer plays three weapons coming in Preludes 13: Seathorn, "our new caster", the Basker's Wrest wrist casters as a Sidearm, and the Clivers, "a new side arm class", dual swords worn as a Sidearm. Since Preludes 15 (Jun 10, 2026), most weapons drop from enemies fully crafted with random Tempers, which you refine at Tuvalkane's forge (see Tempers and Crafting). This page lists the weapons as of Oct 21, 2026; how they fight is on Combat.

Melee weapons

Long Blades are swords, and rapiers belong to them: Preludes 14 "introduces a new weapon type with its own animation set: rapiers", which "tie into the Long Blade Weapon Art tree" (Devstream 13 overview, Mar 30, 2026). The first rapier, Navalha, is the reward of The Wreck of Mestra Carmo. Preludes 16 added a rapier Sidearm, Grimana.

Long Blades have been retuned in public. In Devstream 12 the developers point out a pass on the Long Blade for Preludes 13: they "removed the third strike as a poke and did another swipe", so the combo "has better feeling pacing".

Short Blades include the Founders' Cobladh Short Blade and the dual Clivers, which since Preludes 13 are "equipped as a Sidearm" (Devstream 12 overview, Feb 1, 2026).

Heavy is the class of greatswords and maces. The Greatsword grip arrived with Preludes 12 on Nov 25, 2025, "with The Paragon as its master blade" (Preludes 12: Wylds, Nov 26, 2025). When the first mace, Orst-III, came in Preludes 14.5, maces were made to "share a Weapon Type and Combat Arts with Greatswords, now renamed to 'Heavy'" (Preludes 14.5, May 12, 2026).

The maces kept coming. In Devstream 15 of May 29, 2026, the team plays Vrusht-IX, "the old spiky mace", a two-handed weapon carrying a Voltaic Temper whose effects they admit they must "rein in a bit"; Digital Extremes calls it "an electrifying Ode'n mace of explosion intent" (Devstream 15 overview, Jun 2, 2026). Preludes 16 added another two-handed mace, Wreath.

Polearms include, since Preludes 15, axes: Veilk is "Soulframe's first axe, which features a new moveset in the Polearm branch".

Polearms gained the most from the Preludes 13 combat rework. The developers describe how a character would "moonwalk" when too close to an enemy, so "you'd be playing pole arms and you'd be like rubbing chests" with foes; with distance fixed, "Pole arm combat is amazing".

Sword and shield is its own kit: Lyke-Wake is "A sword and shield of Mendicant origin" (Preludes 14).

Bows, flyblades and Magick

Ranged weapons scale with Grace and Magick weapons with Spirit (Devstream 12 overview). Bows include the Avex "boundbow", whose charged shot can "puncture through a doe to kill the fawn behind her" (Envoy Forge: Avex and Falx, Feb 26, 2026), the Maestro of Thawtide and the Founders' Starling Bow; flyblades include the Founders' Thrice Spurned Flyblades. Magick comes from staffs (Seathorn, Silistavf, Gystalt, the Alder Staff) and wrist casters (Basker's Wrest, the Esthelle Wrist Casters). Bows and Magick weapons use a Charged Shot where melee uses a Heavy Attack (Preludes 14, Apr 17, 2026).

Soulframe has no guns as a weapon type. The one firearm is an ability: the Duelo Pact's Courage Arcanic, Flintlock, lets you "Draw a flintlock pistol against your foes" (see Pacts).

Sidearms and Weapon Arts

Every Loadout holds a Sidearm beside its main weapon since Preludes 10: "A second blade rests at your side" (Preludes 10, May 26, 2025). Short blades, wrist casters and the rapier Grimana are among the Sidearms.

Each weapon type has its Weapon Art (or Combat Arts) skill tree, and weapons of a type share most attacks. In Devstream 9 of Sep 12, 2025, a developer explains that the Fey sword Dewelion "has a unique heavy attack" because it is "very slender, more of a thrusting sword", but "we don't want to set the expectation that every weapon will come with unique attacks"; Digital Extremes' summary: "Not every weapon will feature unique animations, but where fitting, movesets will adapt to the weapon's form" (Devstream 9 overview, Sep 15, 2025).

How to get weapons

Since Preludes 15, enemies drop the weapons they carry. In Devstream 15 the developers explain why: melee, ranged and caster weapons are "a completely different play experience", so you should find and try them early, then invest in the one you like; "enemies that are holding a weapon are going to be dropping that weapon", with a lower chance of other weapons. Weapons also drop from weapon racks, and you can preview a drop and break it down on the spot (Devstream 15 overview).

Other weapons come from content and stores:

  • Fables and Sieges: Navalha from The Wreck of Mestra Carmo, Espadarte and Silistavf from the Siege of Mirifuir, Lyke-Wake and Cenotaph from the Fallen Skytower (Preludes 14). See Fables and Quests.
  • Bosses: Orst-III from the Sinecure Errant-Gawth "or similar mace-wielding Bannerettes" (Preludes 14.5). See Bosses and Agari.
  • Envoy Forge and Zenith's Wares: event and boss sets such as Avex and Falx, which in Feb 2026 were earned as Fragments from The Organ or bought with Arcs from Zenith (Envoy Forge: Avex and Falx). Bought weapons come at a fixed quality with set Tempers (Devstream 15 overview). See Free to Play and Arcs.
  • Founders: each Founders bundle includes weapons, and the Paragon Greatsword is the one Founders item that stays exclusive (see Founders Packs).

Which weapon is best?

Digital Extremes publishes no ranking, and weapons, Tempers and Virtues all changed in 2026. Choose by Virtue: Courage builds favor melee and Heavy weapons, Spirit builds staffs and wrist casters, Grace builds bows, flyblades and stealth (see Virtues). A weapon's strength now depends largely on its quality and Tempers.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get a greatsword in Soulframe? Soulframe's greatswords belong to the Heavy class, added in Preludes 12; the Paragon Greatsword comes with the Paragon Founders bundle, and other Heavy weapons such as the maces Orst-III and Vrusht-IX drop from enemies.

Are there guns in Soulframe? No gun is a weapon in Soulframe. The Duelo Pact's Flintlock Arcanic fires a flintlock pistol shot as an ability.

What weapon types are in Soulframe? Soulframe has Long Blades (including rapiers), Short Blades, Heavy weapons (greatswords and maces), Polearms (including axes), sword and shield, bows, flyblades, Magick staffs and wrist casters, plus a Sidearm slot.
