Soulframe's named characters include the Envoy (you), Grandfather Doyen, the Nightfold's Ancestors (Verminia the Rat Witch, the blacksmith Tuvalkane, Orlick the Bicameral), Empress Alora of Eldveil, the Wylds and the rival Envoy Tempest Bayor. Announced voices are Jennifer English (Alora), Ben Starr (Bayor), Kim Bonifay (Verminia) and Dan Pye (Avakot).

Omen Beasts are the sacred beasts of Alca in Soulframe. Freeing one in its Fable forms a bond that grants a Pact; those trapped in Ode'n ichor become Vadagar. The two in the game as of Oct 21, 2026 are Orengall, the Omen Shewolf, and Bromius, the Arbearer.

Digital Extremes announced Soulframe at TennoCon on Jul 16, 2022, opened its first closed pre-alpha test in Dec 2023 and has developed it in public through Preludes updates since; the promised fall 2024 public opening and a hoped-for 2025 launch both slipped, and there is no release date as of Oct 21, 2026.

Devstreams are Digital Extremes' Soulframe developer livestreams on Twitch and YouTube. The next, Devstream 18, is on Oct 30, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. ET and will cover Open Preludes; watching Devstreams for 30 minutes has usually earned a Preludes invite by Twitch Drop.

Soulframe is developed and published by Digital Extremes of London, Ontario, the studio behind Warframe, founded in 1993 and owned by Tencent through Leyou since Dec 2020. Geoff Crookes is Soulframe's Creative Director and Steve Sinclair, the studio's CEO, works on the game.

Preludes 16: Of Hook & Hound, released on Sep 18, 2026, is Soulframe's latest update; it added fishing, a wolf pup companion, dynamic weather and Tempers retuning, and Hotfix 6 followed on Oct 8, 2026.

Preludes is Soulframe's pre-alpha, played by invited players since Dec 2023; its latest update is Preludes 16: Of Hook & Hound (Sep 18, 2026, Hotfix 6 on Oct 8, 2026), and Preludes 17 has not been announced, as of Oct 21, 2026.

Soulframe is free to play, and every Preludes update is "always free"; its premium currency is Arcs, "Relic coins of the ancient Fey" bought with real money, which today pay for Bestitching and items at Zenith's Wares, as of Oct 21, 2026.

Soulframe's bosses are Fable bosses, fought in story quests, and Agari, named bosses placed around the open world of Midrath ("previously known as the Subbosses", renamed in Preludes 12). Named ones include the Mendicant King, the Mother Weaver, the Impidh Mockery, the Vadagar Bear, the Rovgot Wyrm, the Sinecure Errant-Gawth and the Mendicant Reinbreaker; Agari drop Runes and the Agaric mushrooms that brew The Cogah hard mode.

Soulframe is played solo or in online co-op parties of up to four players (three until Preludes 14.5 in May 2026), with shared fast travel, other players visible around World Trees and in Enclaves, and player trading and mail since Preludes 15. No PvP and no crossplay have been announced as of Oct 21, 2026.

Soulframe's combat is third-person fighting with blade, bow and Magick, slower and more deliberate than Warframe's, built on blocking, dodging, parrying, Smite finishers and the Arcanic abilities of your Pact. Preludes 16 (Sep 18, 2026) tightened the parry and reduced attack magnetism.

A Pact in Soulframe is a bond with an Omen Beast or an Ancestor that gives the Envoy three Arcanic abilities, one for each Virtue (Courage, Spirit, Grace), plus passives. The Pacts so far are Orengall, Bromius, Duelo and three Wyld Pacts; the Vadagar Pact is announced but not out as of Oct 21, 2026.

Since Preludes 15 (Jun 10, 2026), Soulframe's weapons drop fully crafted with Tempers, random buffs that you refine with Ingots at the blacksmith Tuvalkane's forge. Since Preludes 16 (Sep 18, 2026) you can dismantle weapons to reclaim their Tempers and retune eligible Legendary weapons with them.

Soulframe's three Virtues are Courage, Spirit and Grace. Since Preludes 15 (Jun 10, 2026) you set your Virtue alignment freely for each Loadout; melee weapons scale with Courage, Magick with Spirit and ranged weapons with Grace. Virtue Prisms and Virtue Liths are gone.

Soulframe's weapon types are Long Blades (rapiers among them), Short Blades, Heavy weapons (greatswords and maces), Polearms, Magick staffs and wrist casters, bows and flyblades, plus a Sidearm slot. Since Preludes 15 (Jun 10, 2026) weapons drop fully crafted with random Tempers.

Soulframe has no rideable mount yet, as of Oct 21, 2026. Preludes 16 (Sep 18, 2026) added a wolf pup companion, chosen at the end of The Shewolf Snared, that you bond with through fetch, walks, fish and combat; Digital Extremes says it will grow into the first mount, promised for 2026, and that wolves will not be the only mounts.

A new Soulframe Envoy starts with the Warsongs Prologue, which sets the starting face, wakes on Midrath's shore, follows the Sparrow to Grandfa's hut, cleanses a first World Tree and tries the Spirit, Courage and Grace Pacts in the Nightfold before choosing one. After that come Fables, World Tree tasks and an Enclave, alone or in a party of up to four.

Fishing came to Soulframe in Preludes 16 on Sep 18, 2026, with six lures and six fish, among them the Emerald Prickleback and the Boilhead Wumper. You cleanse each catch of the Ode's corruption, then release it or keep it to make snacks for your wolf pup in the Nightfold.

Soulframe Founders are four optional bundles sold at soulframe.com since Nov 25, 2025 (Wyld Tethren, Wyld Sirin, Wyld Oscelda and Paragon), each with instant Preludes access, friend codes, Arcs, Moonsteel Threads and a Warframe skin code. They have no end date as of Oct 21, 2026; Digital Extremes promises at least 30 days' notice.

Open Preludes is Soulframe's next phase, announced by Digital Extremes on Oct 15, 2026; once it begins, anyone on PC can sign up at soulframe.com, download the launcher and play without waiting for an invite. It has no start date as of Oct 21, 2026; details come in Devstream 18 on Oct 30, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Soulframe is on PC (Windows) only, played through the launcher at soulframe.com; Steam has a wishlist page but no playable build, and consoles are planned but none is named or dated, as of Oct 21, 2026.

Soulframe is not Warframe 2 or a sequel: it is a separate game from the same studio, Digital Extremes, set in a fantasy world instead of science fiction, with slower, more deliberate melee combat, and built the same way, free to play and developed in the open with its players. The two games share technology, a studio and TennoCon, and Soulframe Founders get a Warframe weapon skin.

In Soulframe you play an Envoy of ancient Fey blood, washed ashore on Midrath, who frees Alca's Omen Beasts and heals the land from the Ode, invaders whose Spellsong made Alca's people forget their rites, their sacred beasts and their Ancestors. The story is told in Fables; the next one, Warsongs, tells the Envoy's own past and is promised for fall 2026.

The Ode are Soulframe's enemy, invaders from beyond Alca led by Synod. Their Spellsong wiped the memory of Alca's people, their machines pump ichor into the land, and Omen Beasts trapped in that ichor become Vadagar; their soldiers are the Sinecure.

Warsongs is Soulframe's next Fable (story quest), shown at TennoCon 2026 on Jul 11, 2026 and promised for "later this Fall" with no date; it is not out as of Oct 21, 2026. Digital Extremes calls it "a lost history of you, Envoy", and it brings the rival Envoy Tempest Bayor (voiced by Ben Starr) and the corrupted Vadagar Pact, which draws on the Vespers Doom, Death and Wrath instead of Virtues.

Soulframe's three Enclaves are Alca's Children, Kith of Kings and the Silent Rose: factions an Envoy aligns with, earns Standing in by turning in Enclave Favors, and can switch in game. The Silent Rose Enclave, a hidden former smugglers' den with the Drippin' Flagon tavern, was the game's first social hub.

Soulframe's story quests are Fables: the Warsongs Prologue, The Shewolf Snared, The Brewer of Hues, The Waste Bear, The Steelsinger and The Wreck of Mestra Carmo, with the Warsongs Fable announced for fall 2026. Around them sit Faction Tales from World Tree task boards, Votives, Sieges, The Organ and seasonal festivals.

Midrath is the northern isle of the world Alca where Soulframe's Envoy washes ashore and where all of Preludes is played, as of Oct 21, 2026. It is an open island of forests, keeps, shipwrecks and root-caves, crossed on foot, with fast travel between cleansed World Trees since Preludes 12.

The Nightfold is the Envoy's home in Soulframe, a realm of the Ancestors entered from anywhere on Midrath, where you change Loadouts and meet Verminia (customization and elixirs), Tuvalkane (the forge), Orlick the Bicameral (research) and Zenith (wares). Digital Extremes said in Dec 2025 that "The Nightfold will grow in purpose" in 2026.
