Midrath

Midrath is the northern isle of the world Alca where Soulframe's Envoy washes ashore and where all of Preludes is played, as of Oct 21, 2026. It is an open island of forests, keeps, shipwrecks and root-caves, crossed on foot, with fast travel between cleansed World Trees since Preludes 12.

Midrath is the northern isle of Alca, the world of Soulframe, and the only place you can play as of Oct 21, 2026: the Envoy is "Washed ashore on the northern isle of Midrath", in the words of soulframe.com, and every Fable, Siege and Enclave in Preludes sits on this one island. It is an open map you cross on foot, with forests, ruined keeps, shipwrecked coasts and caves of roots, and fast travel between World Trees you have cleansed. Digital Extremes' gameplay trailer of Jun 5, 2026 opens on it: the Envoy wakes in the grass beside standing stones with holes worn through them, then looks out over a wide valley while dark shapes hang in the sky above it. Those shapes are the Ode's work; who the Ode are is on The Ode, and the story that brings the Envoy here is on Story.

Alca and Midrath

Alca is the world; Midrath is the island of it you play. Steam's description says the Envoy carries "ancient Fey blood" and must stop the Ode's corruption and heal Alca, after a song made its people forget their rites and their Omen Beasts (Steam). Digital Extremes calls that song the Spellsong, and Midrath's people still live under it: "Alca's denizens continue their way beneath the Spellsong" (Digital Extremes, Jun 2, 2026). Its old culture is Dendria, and its people the Dendrit.

The first test build of December 2023 used "a section of the main island" (MP1st, Nov 24, 2023), and the map has grown since: "Midrath expands in Preludes 9!" (Digital Extremes, Mar 27, 2025). Digital Extremes has not published the island's size.

Named places

The island is filling with places to find, and with the Ode. In Devstream 9 (Sep 12, 2025) the developers showed concept art of ruins and said the art and design teams would spend the coming months "covering the island with a lot more points of interest and encounters", then showed a "castle kit" for the Ode, an occupying force that comes down and takes over existing places, and a tower "pulling resources from the world".

The places Digital Extremes has named on Midrath, as of Oct 21, 2026:

  • The Neath'uns: "vast root-caves choked with ichor", where you purge seepage and raise living root bridges (Preludes 11, Oct 8, 2025).
  • The Wevetwood: the forest of Bromius, the Waste Bear.
  • The Dermak Undercity and the Glades of Anduin: underground areas Steam names beside "the shifting Neath'uns".
  • Grandfa's hut: where the Sparrow leads new Envoys from the shore since Preludes 12 (Digital Extremes, Nov 16, 2025).
  • The Silent Rose Enclave, a hidden former smugglers' den with the Drippin' Flagon tavern inside; see Enclaves.
  • The Crypt of the Circade, in "the deepest halls of Clan Jotar" (Preludes 10).
  • Mirifuir, "this northern keep", Fort Curlail and Turret Jotar: the Siege fortresses.
  • The Fallen Skytower, a fallen Ode castle "rising out of the corruptive Ichor" whose layout "will shift and change each time you enter it", first as a preview in Preludes 14 (Digital Extremes, Apr 17, 2026).
  • Shipwrecks "dotted across Midrath's coast", the stage of The Wreck of Mestra Carmo.
  • The small northern island "'yond the north of Midrath", reworked for Preludes 15.
  • The Eternium Gardens, communal Fey gardens tied to The Nightfold.

World Trees and Wevetseeds

World Trees are Midrath's shrines and meeting points. You cleanse them as you explore, and since Preludes 14.5 they gather players: in Devstream 15 (May 29, 2026) a developer explains that around every World Tree, "any players that are playing the game at the same time" in that area now appear, one of "the MMO features that we're trying to add". Task boards hang there since Preludes 13 (see Fables and Quests), and since Preludes 15 Envoys "can trade equipment amongst themselves in Enclaves or by World Trees" (Digital Extremes, Jun 2, 2026).

Fast travel runs between those trees. "Wevetseeds grow after The Waste Bear, granting fast travel between cleansed World Trees across Midrath for you (and your squad)", Digital Extremes wrote when Preludes 12 arrived (Nov 26, 2025); it calls them "Voicing Seeds" too. Asked about it in Devstream 12 (Jan 30, 2026), a host answers that fast travel is something "we have". You unlock it by finishing The Waste Bear Fable, so early on you walk.

Sieges and a changing island

Sieges are fortress assaults against waves of the Ode, and Digital Extremes is making them change from run to run. In Devstream 15 a developer describes points of interest that show "what the Ode are doing to the world", with the Dendrit "harvesting their world" for the conquerors, then "a whole bunch of variation being added to the sieges" and the new Turret Jotar Siege, so that it "doesn't feel like Groundhog's Day anymore". The Preludes 15 notes promised Sieges with "new randomized objectives, hazards and enemy compositions" (Digital Extremes, Jun 2, 2026). Each Siege and its rewards are on Fables and Quests.

Day, night and weather

Midrath runs on a clock. Since Preludes 15 (Jun 10, 2026) its people "mosey through day and night, like chopping down trees" (Digital Extremes, Jun 2, 2026), and some foes come out only by moonlight: the Vadagar Bear "stalks Midrath beneath moonlit skies" (Digital Extremes, Feb 12, 2026).

Weather followed in Preludes 16 (Sep 18, 2026). Digital Extremes' teaser marks the moment with a "Dynamic weather" caption: a dark grove under a red sky with a fire burning, then a stone keep in pouring rain where the Envoy fights beside a white wolf pup. The update offers "rainy nights, foggy mornings, or scenic sunsets" with effects on play such as "increased lightning damage or reduced enemy perception ranges" (Digital Extremes, Sep 18, 2026). What the weather means for the island's fish is on Fishing.

Swimming and getting around

Swimming has been on the way for a year. In Devstream 9 (Sep 12, 2025) the developers showed work-in-progress climbing and swimming animations and said "the swimming needs a pretty full animation set", adding that one island could then be reached only with an "emote hack".

By Devstream 15 (May 29, 2026) a host spoke of "swimming that came with" Preludes 14.5 as the team reached that northern island "without emote hacks", showed the map with new region names, and fought ghostly pirates there. Digital Extremes' written summary of the previous Devstream had said "Swimming is on the horizon in an Update beyond Preludes 15" (Apr 27, 2026), and no news post we read announces swimming as a feature, so check the patch notes before counting on it.

Rideable mounts are not in the game as of Oct 21, 2026. Digital Extremes promised you could "mount an Omen Beast of your own in 2026", starting with the wolf from The Shewolf Snared (Digital Extremes, Jul 11, 2026); the Preludes 16 wolf is still a pup. Its progress is on Wolf Pup and Mounts.

The map

The in-game map gained region names in Preludes 15: "The Map UI has been updated, revealing new region names on the island of Midrath" (Digital Extremes, Jun 2, 2026). Digital Extremes has not published the region names or a full map image outside the game, and since Preludes 12 "the compass is always visible" (Digital Extremes, Nov 16, 2025). Where to go first is on Beginner's Guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does Soulframe have fast travel? Yes: since Preludes 12 (Nov 26, 2025), Soulframe's Wevetseeds give fast travel between World Trees you have cleansed, for you and your party. They grow after you finish The Waste Bear Fable.

Can you swim in Soulframe? Digital Extremes wrote on Apr 27, 2026 that swimming "is on the horizon in an Update beyond Preludes 15", though a host in Devstream 15 (May 29, 2026) spoke of swimming coming with Preludes 14.5. No Soulframe news post announces a full swimming feature as of Oct 21, 2026.

Can you ride mounts in Soulframe? Not yet: as of Oct 21, 2026 Soulframe has no rideable mount. Digital Extremes has promised the first, your wolf from The Shewolf Snared, for later in 2026.
