The Ode

The Ode are Soulframe's enemy, invaders from beyond Alca led by Synod. Their Spellsong wiped the memory of Alca's people, their machines pump ichor into the land, and Omen Beasts trapped in that ichor become Vadagar; their soldiers are the Sinecure.

The Ode are the enemy of Soulframe: invaders from beyond the world of Alca, led by Synod, whose Spellsong wiped the memory of Alca's people and whose corrupting ichor turns the sacred Omen Beasts into Vadagar. Game Informer calls them an "extraterrestrial enemy faction" draining Alca of its resources (Game Informer, Mar 27, 2026). In Devstream 12 (Jan 30, 2026) the developers show one of their works, The Organ, "a massive polluter machine built upon a" Dendrit tower that is "pumping ichor" through iron arteries and "polluting Alca", and the goal is to "destroy its beating heart so that Alca can breathe again". You fight the Ode as the Envoy across Midrath; why they came is part of the Story.

Who the Ode are

The Ode came down on Alca from outside it. Steam's premise calls their arrival "Ode'n Descent", when the Spellsong "sounded over Alca" and "caused all to forget": the people's rites, their Omen Beasts, themselves. Now the people of Alca believe their rulers "have always been so" (Steam, read Oct 21, 2026). Digital Extremes has not said in its own words where the Ode come from; "extraterrestrial" is Game Informer's description, and Rock Paper Shotgun called them "space-faring" (Rock Paper Shotgun, Jul 11, 2026).

They are remaking Alca to suit themselves. The Organ makes "Alcan air breathable for the Ode", and "Ode'n Weatherers have warmed Midrath's atmosphere 'yond any chance of snow" (soulframe.com, Mar 8, 2026; soulframe.com, Dec 16, 2025). Game Informer reads the main quests as a fight against the pollution of Alca by machinery and industry (Game Informer, Apr 13, 2026).

Synod

Synod is the Ode's lord. Digital Extremes names him only in passing so far: a Thawtide item describes "an elite marksman ordered by Synod himself" and asks "What desire does the Ode'n lord have for these tiny red birds?" (soulframe.com, Dec 16, 2025), and the rival Envoy Tempest Bayor is "sworn to Synod and the Ode" (soulframe.com, Jul 11, 2026). Fan sites write "Lord Synod"; Digital Extremes writes "Synod". He has not appeared in the game as of Oct 21, 2026.

The Sinecure, Bannerettes and Conductors

The Sinecure are the Ode's soldiers and hunters, the armored foes you fight in camps across Midrath. In Envoy Hour #6 (Nov 5, 2025), Associate Art Director Rosa Lee names her favorite of her own paintings: the Omen Shewolf Orengall captured in the background, with the Sinecure around a campfire in the middle, roasting marshmallows. In Digital Extremes' texts they appear as "a Sinecure soldier", "Sinecure hunters" and a named boss, the Sinecure Errant-Gawth (Preludes 14.5) (soulframe.com, Feb 26, 2026; soulframe.com, May 12, 2026). Wikipedia calls them mercenaries; Digital Extremes has not.

Above the soldiers are ranks with their own names. Preludes 14.5 added "mace-wielding Bannerettes" (soulframe.com, May 12, 2026). The Ode'n Conductors are elite Ode who seized the northern keep of Mirifuir, a Siege added in Preludes 14 (soulframe.com, Mar 30, 2026). Preludes 15 added a new enemy, the Ode'n Caeulam, and Ode'n drones "hauling chests of loot towards their strongholds" (soulframe.com, Jun 2, 2026). Ode'n gear is loot too: Preludes 14.5 was named Ode'n Tempers. How to fight them is on Combat.

Medis Gyon and The Organ

Medis Gyon is the Ode's "plague doctor of the stars", the inventor of The Organ. His own lungs are poisoned by his work, and "the only cure is The Organ's successful transplant" (soulframe.com, Mar 8, 2026). The Organ arrived with Preludes 13 (Feb 12, 2026) as an activity: you raid a Dendrit tower, loot camps for a rooftop key, and destroy its vents and coils (Digital Extremes, Feb 2, 2026). Its music is an official track, "The Organ's Breath", by composer Keith Power (see Music).

Ichor and the Vadagar

Ichor is the Ode's corruption, and it is what turns a sacred beast into a monster. "Envoys may be familiar with the Omen Beasts becoming Vadagar when trapped in Ode'n ichor", Digital Extremes wrote at TennoCon 2026 (soulframe.com, Jul 11, 2026). In Devstream 12 the developers show the first one you meet in the open world: "the Vadagar version of Bromius", a corrupted bear that roams Midrath "at night time in specific areas", added in Preludes 13. Ichor also chokes the land itself: the Neath'uns are "vast root-caves choked with ichor" (soulframe.com, Oct 8, 2025), the rivers are "Blighted by the ichor", and since Preludes 16 you cleanse "Ode corruption" from the fish you catch (Digital Extremes, Sep 18, 2026). The beasts are on Omen Beasts.

Corruption is also becoming a path for the player. The Vadagar Pact, announced at TennoCon 2026, lets the Envoy "Wield the power of the corrupting Ichor" and draw power from Vespers (Doom, Death and Wrath) instead of Virtues (Digital Extremes, Jul 14, 2026). It arrives with Warsongs, promised for fall 2026 and not out as of Oct 21, 2026.

The Mendicant and the Mockeries

The Mendicant are corrupted foes risen from the ichor. The Mendicant King was the boss of Preludes 10 (May 26, 2025), and the Mendicant Reinbreaker, a horse and rider, "rises from the ichorous mire" as "The newest Agari" (soulframe.com, Jul 11, 2026). In the TennoCon 2026 Devstream (Jul 11, 2026) the fight plays out under the boss bar "Mendicant Reinbreaker": the rider charges an Envoy through a ruined, misty marsh, followed by a card saying it is live now. Digital Extremes calls it the Ode forces' "latest boss encounter"; beating it frees "his indentured steed for the potential chance to befriend it in the future" (Digital Extremes, Jul 14, 2026). Every boss is on Bosses and Agari.

The Mockeries are another foe type, with Mockery weapons and armor you can loot, reworked in Preludes 15 (soulframe.com, Jun 2, 2026). The Impidh Mockery was a mini-boss of Preludes 11.

Tempest Bayor, an Envoy for the Ode

Not every servant of the Ode is Ode. Tempest Bayor is "a rare red-armed Envoy" who "aligns himself with the invading Ode forces with the support of his faithful raven companion"; "His motivations are unknown", Digital Extremes says (Digital Extremes, Jul 14, 2026). The Warsongs trailer (Jul 11, 2026) ends its last fight on a figure with a long weapon crackling with red light and a red-glowing arm. Ben Starr voices him; the rest of the cast is on Characters.
